Dead End
written February 19, 2002
hold fast to everything now
so afraid if you let go
you'll spin out of control
and you look back on those days
and smile as the tears stream down your cheeks
because you search for some sense of familiarity
in the present
all those memories, so soft and warm
back in a time when you still belonged
so much has changed
and it all now just stays the same
and you're lurking towards a dead end
and there's no going back
if only before you made the turn
you could have seen a little further down the road
could have seen that he'd break your heart
and she would turn her back
and he would sleep forever
and she would disappear
and he would let your fears amplify
wipe away the tears from your eyes
we are destined to live alone
and by ourselves, we must die
everyone is en route to their own dead end
some have just found a more convincing lie
